Mercor matches screened experts to paid project work for AI labs and other companies. The platform screens you, scores fit, routes you to roles, and keeps rules in place while you work.

There is no fee to apply, interview, or get started. When you accept a role, Mercor takes margin from the company pay rate; talent does not pay a separate platform fee on top.

The site targets people with real domain depth: engineers, clinicians, finance specialists, consultants, researchers, and similar specialists.

Types of Work You Can Land

As of May 2026, public listings on the homepage regularly include medicine, finance, consulting, research, and engineering. The exact mix shifts with client demand.

Roles expect defensible credentials: degrees, licenses, portfolio proof, or deep applied experience in one field. A vague résumé will not carry far here.

Getting In

The path starts with an AI interview—about 20 minutes to complete. Review usually takes about two to four weeks after that, per Mercor’s published talent documentation.

After the interview, fit scoring still matters. Profile completeness, verified credentials, endorsed skills, and past outcomes on the site all influence which roles you see.

Paid work trials are part of the model. Trials are paid, but you are usually limited to one; the outcome can affect whether extended work opens up.

Some high-fit profiles receive instant offers without a fresh assessment for a specific role. Most applicants still wait through the standard review path.

Fees and Pay

Weekly payouts are a clear strength. Mercor processes pay by end of Wednesday Pacific time; funds are usually available Thursday.

Your first Stripe payout can sit in a seven-day hold. Work-trial pay typically arrives seven to fourteen business days after you finish the trial, before normal bank timing.

Payout methods are primarily Stripe, with Wise where Stripe is not supported.

Rules While You Work

Hourly contracts require Insightful time tracking with published screenshot and activity rules. Plan on using that tooling for billable hours.

Before work starts you sign agreements, set up payout and tax details, and finish account checks. Activation can take up to a week even after you submit everything.

Active limits matter: Mercor documents a default cap of two active contracts and eighty hours per week across hourly work.

Supported countries, tax guidance, and B2B or LLC setup rules apply depending on where you live.
